A natural stone foundation consists of stones piled on one another and hold together with mortar to form a foundation.
This type of foundation is the oldest type of foundation found in ancestral homes. Through the years the foundation has moved with the structure of the house.
Nevertheless, a stone foundation is very playable and stable due to its ability to shape itself to the environment.
Although stable, after many years of exposure to water, the mortar may wash away and need to be redone, waterproofed, and drained at the base like any other type of foundation.
Stone foundations are in general more costly to repair due to time-consuming intervention and material cost.
